monday musings...

Today has been one of those glorious kind of days. And for a Monday, that's pretty good. Brad and I started our day out together in the Word. Something we haven't done much over the last two years or so. We both kind of had an epiphany of sorts. You know, this parenting an adopted teenage boy thing has been far from easy peasy. In fact, it's been downright hard, frustrating, trying, and messy. {I've started going gray from the stress. Fact. LOL.}

And Brad and I had this epiphany that we've been going at this alone, down two separate paths, really. We've both been seeking God and reading His Word on our own time and in our own private places, but we haven't come to His throne of grace together even near often enough. And this is not just imperative in handling adoptive parenting, but also parenting in general. And life. And marriage.

And so our 45 minutes together in the Word this morning was a huge refreshment to both of us. We've decided to study the Proverbs together, taking a piece of each Proverb in the morning, approaching it in prayer, reading it silently to ourselves, journaling its application in our lives, and then sharing with one another. This morning, we did Proverbs 1:8-19, following up on 1:1-7 that Brad led a study on in our Sunday School yesterday. It was a wonderful investment of the first 45 minutes of both of our days.

Hmmm.... What else. Oh, yes, school lessons. We're really enjoying reading Little House in the Big Woods and reading the other books we have regarding pioneer living. We made snow candy over the weekend, something that Laura and her family used to do as a treat at Christmas time. It was fun. And messy.

Lily and I have been enjoying reading through the Hattie series. I got these books from my mom's library. There are four in the series, and Lily is just loving them. We're on the last book. I looked up the books online hoping that there were more Hattie books, but it seems as though this is it. I believe we'll start the Betsy-Tacy series next. {The Betsy-Tacy Treasury: The First Four Betsy-Tacy Books (P.S.)}

I finished another infinity scarf this morning. This one is perfectly soft and warm. Feels so cozy on my neck. Perfect for these snowy days. I'm supposed to receive another yarn delivery today. I love those yarn deliveries! It's so much fun to open up the box and see all of the beautiful colorful yarn just waiting to be made into something. I have several custom orders that will be made with most of this yarn that is to arrive today. And then I also bought a few skeins of fun yarn, yarn that I will probably use to make items for my shop.

Well, the kids and I are heading to our dear friends' home. "The farm" as my kids call it. The kids will play and do some sled-riding while us mommies enjoy some adult conversation.

Have a blessed day!

So glad to hear that you are going to do the only thing that really helps when things get tough or rough or boring... The enemy has always used the tactic to stop my hubby and I from praying together. But whoa when ya study together, walls come tumbling down. Amen
Blessings, Roxy

So nice to read your post Amber. I completely relate to the grey hair dilemma... and I can also say that my hair has not only gotten more grey, but is falling out to boot. I had to read this to Steve tonight, because It is comforting to read your own thoughts through somebody else's words, and I thought he would appreciate it as well. We both chuckled in sympathy. We often have bible and prayer time together...not every day, but a couple times a week, and it has truly been the glue to hold it all together... meaning it has helped us partake in what He has given us to help us over come and be blessed through it all.

Your pictures are great. Have a great week.
Love and Blessings,
Pam

For all my life, I've watched my parent's read their Bibles first thing in the mornings and it's made a huge impact on my life. As well, it will your children's; one of their most precious memories will be of Mom and Daddy reading and studying God's Word, together, first thing in the morning.
Obedience is better than sacrifice.
