Taking the Classroom Outside...

One of my favorite things about homeschooling is the flexibility it offers in learning what we want and how we want to learn it.

Yesterday was kind of dreary and chilly, but we headed out with our rain boots and sweatshirts and did some hands-on science.

The kids enjoyed planting their sunflower and watermelon seeds in starter pots. Now, they will learn to care for their plants as they grow. And this also offers a notebooking opportunity for them to observe and record and draw the progress of their plants.

Some of us homeschoolers sometimes think that just because our kids aren't sitting at the table doing worksheets, they're not learning.

Oh, how wrong that thought is! Life is a learning experience. We as parents just need to be willing and ready to keep our eyes open to those experiences and then expound upon them with our kids. (Like why worms are so important to the health of our garden soil!)

Planting seeds together offers a wonderful opportunity to explore God's creation, to learn the anatomy of a flower, to learn how plants grow, to learn to care for plants as they grow.

Don't be afraid to ditch the books for a day every now and then and head out into real-life learning.

Have a blessed day!

I completely agree! It's so easy to fall into that rut during our schooling and what a great reminder this is!
