Weekend Book Review - Life of John Newton

Do you know the story of the man behind the well-known hymn, Amazing Grace? Well, I learned about his life and a lot about His God by reading Life of John Newton. Originally published in 1831 by the American Sunday-School Union, this book was republished in June of this year by Attic Books, a subsidiary of New Leaf Publishing Group.

And like all of the other "Life of..." books I have reviewed for New Leaf Publishing, this one has the original content, handsome hardback cover and frayed ages to give it that authentic, antiquated look.

I really enjoyed this book. My prior knowledge of John Newton prior to reading this literature, was almost zero. This book gave an overview of John's life from birth to his death. It told of the time his mama spent on her knees in intercession for him, and how, despite his complete turn from God, he was eventually brought into full relationship with His Savior.

God's continual protection on Newton's life astounded me. I know that God protects His children. And Newton's life proved that. He faced many near-death experiences, hardships, and trials, and, despite his unfaithfulness to God, God still protected him, eventually redeeming him.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I really cannot say enough about the "Life of..." books that are being republished by Attic Books. I have enjoyed all three that I have read and reviewed.

*I received a complimentary copy of this book for review purposes from New Leaf Publishing Group in exchange for my honest review.*
