31 Days of Power: Learning to Live in Spiritual Victory by Ruth Myers

As Christians, as believers in Christ, we are actively engaged in a spiritual battle against a powerful enemy. This battle goes on unseen in the spiritual realm about us, but it is real. However, as believers, followers, of Christ we have ultimate victory over any spiritual attack from the enemy through the sacrifice made on the cross by our Lord Jesus.

In this book/devotional, Ruth Myers briefly discusses the reality of spiritual warfare. She discusses how there is no neutral ground in this world ~ everything in this life is a battle between God and Satan. God fighting to lift His followers up victoriously and Satan trying to tear us down and destroy us. Satan is constantly trying to render us helpless. He desires to make us feel powerless to our sins. He fights to ingrain in our minds the lies that hinder us from walking victoriously in Christ.

But the thing I love about Ruth's devotional is that she also emphasizes Satan's limited power, and she reminds the reader that we are not to be preoccupied by Satan, but we are to focus on our Lord and His victorious power. Satan would love to render us fearful and scared by his tactics, and that is why we must not give him the satisfaction of sitting in a corner obsessing over him and his attacks, but we are to focus our mind and life on God's power, His goodness in all circumstances (good and bad), and strive to serve Him and Him only.

I LOVED this devotional, and it is definitely one that I will use over and over again. As with Ruth's 31 Days of Praise (another devotional set up in similar fashion), this little book is packed full of spiritual truths. Packed and flowing over.

It is set up with a devotional/prayer (that is overflowing with Scriptural proclamations) for each day of the month - 31 days in all. Then following the devotional portion is a second part of the book that discusses the dynamics of spiritual warfare in more detail.

I cannot say enough how impressed I am with the powerful truths contained in this devotional. This would be a great devotional to read aloud each morning before starting the day. Ruth doesn't write some mumble jumble, feel-good material in this devotional, but real, from the Word truths that are uplifting, encouraging, and empowering. I highly recommend this book.

I received this book from Waterbrook Multnomah Publishing Group in exchange for my honest opinion and review.

Woohoo! I have been looking for a meaty devotional book. After having read Streams in the Desert and Springs in the Valley, other books I started this year fell flat. Am I the only one that didn't care for Jesus Calling? *sigh*

Thanks again for the review! And I'm excited that I have a 25% off coupon for my local bookstore. :)
