Sewing...

Lily and I have been working on a patchwork quilted pillow for her bedroom. It's a small project, and I, of course, had to reinforce all of her hand-stitching with my machine. But we both had fun working on this together, and I love that it's teaching her some basic sewing skills at a young age.

Here she is with the completed pillow...

And here's my most recent project. A quilted table runner for spring/summer. I found a really easy tuturial here. I really liked that it used straight-line quilting on the top since I don't have a darning presser foot on my sewing machine.

This is actually my first bigger quilting project. My goal is to eventually do a large quilt to snuggle under while I read (or with my sweetie) but I wanted to start with something not so overwhelming. I cut out all the fabric on Sunday, stitched it all together last night, and just have to put binding on it now. This is the most intimidating part - the binding. I really don't know how to do this so I'm going to have to be searching the net for a good tutorial.

Have a blessed day!

Great job!!! I have a sewing machine, but I havent a clue how to do anything more than a straight line! You're inspiring me to find the time to learn, and make beautiful, cheery items for us all to enjoy!

Beautiful pillow & runner. Tell Lily she did a wonderful job! So sweet mother & daughter sewing together. The quilt idea sounds lovely. They are a lasing treasure with so many memories. I have one My Great Gram my Gram my Mom & I did & hand stitched when I was About 12. Gram gave it to me for my wedding anniversary a few months before she passed. Have fun making memories with your quilt. Blessings!

Well done Amber - you are braver than I - I love quilts but have never attempted one. Lily looks so proud of her pillow - good job Lily!!

Amber,
Kudos to you for teaching your daughter to sew! I have a custom drapery studio and it is sad to see that very few young people want to join this very satisfying and fulfilling industry. Sewng skills are sadly falling by the wayside.
I love your blog-and your daughter is a darling little girl.

Amber,
What a beautiful blog! Lily's pillow is adorable. She is more than one step ahead of me... I never learned how to sew and always wished I had.
