Today is the first day of fall. With the cooler temps in my corner of the world, I'm really excited about putting out my fall decorations. Unfortunately, my camera decided to quit working right when I decided to start a blog. So, I looked back in my photos from last fall and found a picture of the centerpiece I made in October. It turned out so cute, I thought I'd share. Oh, and sorry for the bad lighting.I bought a fresh pumpkin. Cut a cute little lid off the top, and then scooped out all of the pulp. Using my star-shaped cookie cutter, I traced star shapes around the whole circumference of the pumpkin and then cut the star shapes out. You could use any shape of a cookie cutter. Crows or witch shapes would be cute for a Halloween-themed centerpiece. You could even cut out words such as "Boo" or "Happy Harvest." I then bought those little fake tea-lights that flicker (you can find them at craft stores) and put one inside the pumpkin. I placed the pumpkin in the middle of my large square Pampered Chef platter. I then added gourds and mini squash that I had bought at the grocery store the whole way around the pumpkin. Last, I topped it off with some orange-colored berries I found at Michael's craft store.
It only stayed good for two weeks since it was cut. You could always make the centerpiece with an uncut pumpkin and then cut out the shapes closer to the holidays. Or you could trace on your chosen shapes, fill in the shapes with a thin layer of mod-podge and then sprinkle on some black, brown, or dark orange glitter.
Fall is such a cozy time of year. It takes me a while to come to grips with summer's end, but when I start to feel that chill in the air and smell the crisp autumn air, my mind can't help but start thinking about pumpkins, mums, caramel apples, spiced apple cider, and all the other yummy staples of fall.I can't wait to cuddle up under a nice cozy, knitted throw while I read and drink my hot chai tea. I also love to pull out my pumpkin spice candles and fill the house with the spicy scent. Oh, and warming the oven with some yummy, moist pumpkin spice bars is always such a fun and delicious way to celebrate fall. And I love to pull out all of my accent lighting and really put it to good use. I rarely never use overhead lighting. Soft accent lighting makes the room feel so warm and inviting. I have quite a few small lamps that I keep lit in the evenings, and it makes the house feel so cozy.
Well, tomorrow I plan on posting about some fun fall activities that have become traditions at our home. Ways to bring on the fun in the fall time.
See you next time!
